Our Community Access Program compliments the Life Skills Program by developing students’ skills in becoming independent, safe travellers on public transport and following road rules with confidence.
Skills being taught include:
- reading maps, timetables, travel schedules and watches
- using Transperth’s Journey Planner to plan a travel schedule
- organizational skills
- appropriate social behaviours
- using public technology e.g. public telephones, smart rider ‘Add Value’ machine
- money handling & management
- safe commuting and road crossing skills
- group participation and leadership skills
- the skill of honest self-evaluation
Students access various locations such as:
- Libraries
- Shopping Centres
- Museums
- Community Centres
- Workplaces
These activities take place in and around the southern metropolitan areas.
