WHAT IS BUSH RANGERS?
Bush Rangers WA is a conservation and community development program, which supports young Western Australians in taking an active role in the conservation of the natural environment through a variety of practical nature conservation projects and recreational activities.
The Bush Rangers WA program is a School Curriculum and Standards Authority endorsed program (SCSA). Completion of Levels 1, 2 and 3 by Bush Rangers in Year 10 – 12 may count towards meeting requirements of the WA Certificate of Education (WACE) as well as volunteer hours.
The program aims to develop self reliance, responsibility, initiative, leadership and team work in our Bush Rangers. It is delivered by our dedicated staff through a series of themed units and utilises the beautiful bushland and coastal environments of Rockingham.
We hope our Bush Rangers develop a stronger understanding and appreciation of the environment, the challenges it faces and become passionate advocates, actively engaging in their local community to make a difference.
WHO CAN JOIN?
All Rockingham ESC students from Year 7 to Year 10 are invited to participate in this wonderful program.
The Bush Rangers meet in school hours to take part in conservation and recreational activities for two hours per week.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED?
Each term we provide an outline of the activities, which also include some whole day excursions, incursions and overnight camps. Some of the past activities have included conservation of Shoalwater Beach (Adopt a Beach Program), handling reptiles, amphibians and mini-beasts, experiencing Indigenous culture and bush tucker, bird box building and monitoring, simple first aid, team building, navigation, roping activities such as the flying fox and giant swing, meeting birds of prey, and much, much more.
